Horus Heresy Escalation Campaign

Interest in Horus Heresy seems to be quite high (especially as Gary and Mike have now joined the party).

Just enquiring as to the appetite for an escalation “league” type thing (specifics to be worked out) to help those starting out to build and play their armies.

No pressure, as I know some people aren’t motivated by having to meet deadlines and such.

I’ve got decent sized legions, but I’m happy to play smaller games and build up like we’ve been doing so far. Would mean I could use some of the more unusual units I’ve got in the smaller games.

Cool, I need to have a think on how to make 500 point games viable. I reckon either use the allied detachment force organisation chart or reduce tactical squad min size to 5 (temporarily and only for the smaller games). I’m leaning towards the latter so armies have more units = reactions being less obvious/no brainer decisions.

The rather basic and derivative idea is; we find a planet, it has loads of good stuff on it, we fight for it. The first, smaller games represent your force’s advanced party making planetfall and setting up a beachhead.

With that in mind I’d go for something like:
Centurion (using your praetor model).
2x 5 man tactical squads.
1x 5 man tactical support squad.
1x 5 man heavy support squad.

Which additional weapons do you have access to?

The zone mortalis rules have reduced reactions due to the smaller game size if we can find a copy

Are you splitting it so you each have 5 of each weapon? If you are looking to lean in to the chemical flame thrower theme then you’ll want all 10 flamers.

Depends on what Legion Gary decides to go with I suppose.

Any of the heavy weapons are a good choice for Death Guard as you can move and shoot with any of them.

I think my list above is a good starter list, 21 models isn’t too arduous to get built and gives a solid core to expand upon.

I’ve not yet been able to find a copy online but will keep looking.

Mike,

Ray managed to find the ZM pdf (available on the discord) and I think they can work for our smaller games.

The Org chart only requires 1 HQ and 1 Troop as mandatory choices. I think my list above still works but you just combine the two 5 man tactical squads into a single 10 man squad.
