Out in time for the release of Into the Breeding Pits in July, this boxed set will, like the Cultists, allow you to either build a horde of slavering beasts to oppose your warbands, or to construct a savage warband, well suited for allying with a more bestial wizard (on which, more later...).

Pics, sprues etc. to follow in due course.

If they're the same quality as the other plastic sets I can see lots of use for these.

I like the sound of beastial (autocorrect tried to change this to beastiality) wizards. May get me interested in frost grave. Any plans in the group to have some form of narrative story?

I hope so. I think a "proper" campaign was planned once enough people were comfortable with the rules.

I've not read it but I believe the Lichlord stuff is intended to be a narrative campaign. I think Matt has the book.

Oh cool. I bought the Otherworld Gnoll chieftain a few months back so something to use him for.

We were discussing campaigns tonight and the potential need for a balancing mechanism between differently ranked wizards but by the sounds of it this expansion lets you play against "the game" so to speak so maybe that will allow lower level wizards to gain experience without having to play higher ranked wizards and the inevitable arse kicking that ensues (or it might just mean it adds extra random monsters when playing a wizard v wizard scenario....?)

Edit: re reading it I think it's the latter. So that still leaves us needing a balancing mechanism for the game. I like Tom's suggestion of a warband having a rating and when you play you must play using the lowest warbands rating (so higher level wizards would have to drop stuff from their roster in order to match the lower level). Now to figure out what a warband rating is......

I don't like that idea.

That was vague musing on the conflicting goals of a campaign game where you want to reward success with band development but also keep games balanced. Not a suggestion for Frostgrave as such.

My mistake.

Maybe we should just play a campaign with rules as is and then come to a conclusion ourselves, I've only played three games!

Cheers,
Dave
