Darkson's warband

Postby Darkson (Simon) » Sun Jul 19, 2015 3:11 pm

Let' see if I can actually get a warband finished.

So Frostgrave came along, with a band being around 10 models (max 14 with bonuses iirc). Backed the Nickstarter initially just for the rulebook, but decided to jump to lvl 3 to get a wizard & appretice and a box of their plastic henchmen. Then came the information that there was (at least to start with) no differences in the stat -lines for any fantasy race you could think off, it was all about the henchman type & weaons, so my brain ticks over and I decide I want a rag-tag group of various races, hopefully taken from my bits box and Mordheim gangs.

It was going well to start with.

Then I went to Attack in Devizes with Gary, and The Dice Bag Lady (Annie) was there. She'd recently had to temporarily stop making dice bags, and had branched out into miniatures, including selling ranges of sensibly clothed female characters. Whilst looking through the stuff she had there I found a Halfling thief I wanted:

Then on the painted display I found a wizard that I really liked the look off:

So with that, I decided that I wanted to do an all-female warband. Unfortunately, Annie was waiting for a restock of that figure, so I will be putting in an order for that model, and some others, around my birthday.

On the way back I was convinced I had plenty of Heresy and Hasslefree figures I could use.

This morning, I started the job of combing through my collection looking for suitable figures to use. Like many/most of us, I've got more figures than I know what to d with, and being the highly organised person that I am I've no idea where half of them are! Disappointingly, I can't find most of the Hasslefree figures that I'm 99.9% certain I had, and a look at the Heresy sitte makes me think I didn't order them after all, so I'll probably be ordering from both of those gents to!

However, I did pull out all the figures I felt could be used, either as wizards, henchmen or summoned beings - hopefully I can make something out of this lot?

Will be having a proper sort through that pile tomorrow when Zoe gets out, and hopefully can find the motivation to actually make a start on it!

Looking good, half of my warband will be female when I'm done. I've predominately used the otherworld miniatures stuff for my warband but have loads of hassle free stuff. What I did find is that there aren't many that have bows/x-bows.....

If you're interested let me know which ones you want and I may well have it and perhaps we can do a deal. ;)

Cheers,
Dave

While waiting for money to get figures I really want...

The warband:

L-R: Thief 1, Thief 2, Apprentice, Wizard

L-R: Crossbow, 2xArchers (slingers) Thug(back), Man-at-Arms

Right at the back are two zombie "just in case".
The thug will eventually be a Barbarian when I can afford it.

Next onto undercoat, though I first need to see if I actually still have any!

Old GW Skull White spray - great snow effect, not so good as an undercoat!

I know how to use one, but it's been so long since I used it (I think that was the one I used to undercoat the dwarfs).

Gonna need to borrow some spray from someone, otherwise on hold again until pay day.
