For 40K, and games set in the 40K universe

Crusade is going to be based on power levels instead of points, with starting rosters at power 50. This is approximately equivalent to 1000 points. This is your pool of units available for games, which suggests that at least some of the missions will need less than this. Unit's appear to be able to get better or worse based on how they do in game and there is mention of a balancing mechanism. Not seeing anything bad so far.

Sounds interesting, especially as it's power rather than points. Much less faff in putting lists together for armies.

From todays article:

500 point games are going to be a thing
Points costs of units are going up

Sounds like they are finally trying to make the cost of entry a bit more sensible.

So we've been effectively playing at Onslaught level?

Looking forward to hearing more about the app.

According to today's article - https://www.warhammer-community.com/202 ... ge-post-1/ - blast weapons are going to be punchier.

Also there are 174 weapons/relics with that characteristic. There's a sign of a bloaty game if ever i saw one

That was always the problem with 40k though. There is so much customisation that no one really knows what everything does and there are way too many options to even get close to balancing them. At least it looks like they are returning to having universal rules for things like blast rather than every model or weapon having it's own renamed slight variation on the same rule.

I was trying to work out if not owning the Psychic Awakening books, Chapter Approved books and Chaos codexes was going to put me off step when 9th drops. As they'll all be transferable.

Then this thought hit me

Hopefully this new app will remove a lot of the issue. Not that I trust GW to make it behave sensibly. The digital rule books and codexes are great but they really need to do something to cut down on space requirements. At one point my iPad was literally 50% 40k books and that isn't reasonable.

They've missed a trick there. They can sell you a gaming tablet that you can store all of their stuff on.
