Our first real tournaments we went to as a club was the Spiky Tournament held in Reading. Their concept was that pre last round the bottom four players were removed from the pack and got to 'win the wooden spoon' in a dungeon bowl. We had entries for many a year and once I won with Halflings. This part of the event was always popular and when I moved house a table became available and ideas sprouted. Mike and Dave at the time was experimenting with Hurst Arts buildings and when some were brought in we thought something good could be made. We have always liked to promote the lower reaches of tournament placings which is evident by the amount of times we have inhabited them, so this table came first. Eventually we will make a top table.....

As we were playing Man'O'War at the time I jokingly showed everyone my new ocean table.

We stuck the tiles straight on to the table as storage and mobility wasn't an issue. Standard wall tile spacers along with the tile made the square the same size as the current board. As if we planned it!

Patience required, and a big thanks to Mike for all the evenings spent casting out of dentists plaster, but eventually we got there. Missing squares are for a bit of variety and we will put a direction arrow in the middle.

As mentioned I left some squares for extras. They have no in game purpose as they are randomly placed but add to the overall feel.

First a zombie,

Second, spiky grass. Found on every pitch in the world as anyone with dodge can tell you.

To make the scatter we took the numbers from a calculator and trimmed some of the tiles. The open squares were filled with water effect so the squares were usable in the game. A ball was placed in the centre square in the same manner.

The tiles were dry brushed grey and our pumpkin symbol and club name were added. End zones were coloured to match our random turn producer.

The lines are made from coloured wool dipped in P.V.A. glue and laid between the tiles. I let Mike and Simon do this bit so they felt it was made by us all. And no paint was required.
