Journey to the Jwar Isles

Given the other painting and building logs on the forum seem to act as a motivator for the user, I thought that it was about time I did something similar. And if it encourages me to paint more, and quicker, it can only be a good thing.

But why Bushido figures when no one else plays and I’ve already got a backlog of figures to paint? Firstly, I need a change. I need to paint something other than the undead, I’ve had enough (at the moment) of painting Walkers and their flesh. Secondly, when I look at my current Mailfaux figures awaiting a coat of paint, I faced with at least 6 that are needed for the crew but are 0 Soulstones! And that doesn’t include the Master!!! 6 figures before I even get onto the meat of the crew… Thirdly, I like the Bushido aesthetics, the ancient Far East theme sort of does it for me at the moment and having played a game, I actually really like the subtleties of it and it has the added advantage of being played on a 2 x 2 board.

So this thread will cover the figures, and taking a lead from Dave’s excellent work, the building of a couple (yes 2!) tables (I’ve already got the blue foam and plywood/MDF so hopefully won’t take too long to knock something up). So what have I got to paint? I’ve treated myself to one warband at the moment but have my eye on a second (both play very differently). The attached picture shows the current aim. 9 figures in total. 9! This actually gives me around 67 points (or rice in Bushido terms) of figures, and given that games play at 35, 42 and 50 rice, leaves me plenty of options to take and try different things. All with 9 figures!!! I’ve also got some of the really nice MicroArt Studios Ancient bases to tie in with the theme I’m running for the Ito Clan.

As can be seen, I’ve already finished the Temple Asp/Bushi and he just needs basing, and the Child of Orochi (now finished) should feature below.

Not overly good photos (I’ll try and get some better ones sorted soon) but she painted up quite quickly, probably due to the size, but that said, I’m having to use a magnifier for a lot of the work on these. I’ve also dropped in a comparison of Datsue Ba vs the Child, these are comparatively small. A Mantic Walker from TWD looks positively huge and chunky when put side by side. Paint looks a little rough, but bear in mind she is only 32mm tall from top of head to toes...

Finally, this might be the reason I paint so slowly…

Ditto. I don't think you can link to pics on Dropbox, you'll need to upload them to here.

Looks brilliant! Loving your paint station and very jealous of it.

Well I was thinking about it but this might tip me over into buying stuff!

If the boards are anything like your Malifaux ones then they will be awesome I’m sure.

Very nice stuff.

As you can tell, a weekend where I've managed to squeeze in a little painting amongst the other usual Bank Holiday jobs..

First up, the Temple Bushi now based:

Update pics of the Child of Orochi - this time with a bit more focus.

And finally, the board is at least progressing. I realise that blue foam isn't really that exciting, but the build might be of interest

Looks very good, the board is a promising start too.

Are you making the board in sections or is that a single 2’x2’ piece?

It's a single 2'x2' piece, or just under at the moment. The foam comes in 600mm x 600mm so it made sense to just do it as one.
