Journey to the Jwar Isles

Our little corner of pride

Update Time.

Firstly the board; reasonable progress since the initial post. The board has now been based - 12mm plywood to hopefully prevent any kind of warpping (as seen on my Malifaux boards!). It just needs some ply or MDF put along the sides to again help prevent warping but also to prevent damage to the foam. Any rumours that side panelling it is needed to actually get the board to 24"x 24" are wholly unsubstantiated... ;)

As can be seen, the walls and pillars are movable, allowing appropriate placement for games. They need to be based to prevent damage and warpping as well.
Clearly I need to get busy with some woodwork, and then should be able to start adding texture and the like to it all.

Although there is no new Ito figure to show (Yuui is in the process of being painted and is requiring considerable effort to get right...), I have managed to knock out the small Scenario Objective Markers (30mm bases). These were a whole £7 on Amazon (probably could have gotten them cheaper on eBay) and where an interesting heavily lacquered red this morning, but now a suitable stone colour. Clearly I need to find a game where my crew/warband is 6 stone Buddhas in the jungle!

A little more progression since the last post, aided by a fairly productive Bank Holiday Weekend... ...most of the work has been on the board rather than figures, but the scatter terrain (not shown this time) has been based and undercoated and now just needs highlighting, shading and foliage adding.

The basic board is shown below - now with colour and a bit of texture. It just needs a little more foliage of the jungle variety to be added and then it should be complete. I'm currently deciding whether or not to go with metal etched leaves (similar to the ones used on the figures bases) or to use some plastic aquarium type stuff. As can be seen, aquarium decoration makes the perfect jungle scatter terrain with minimal effort.

Job's a good'un.

Board and scatter terrain completed (for now!). I intend to do some more scatter terrain in way of trees, roots and vines, but what I have, should suffice for the time-being. Photos mainly focus on the added detail and terrain pieces - all of which have being put on the board, so a little crowded in places.

Dense black foam has been added to the insert underneath the board and protrudes a couple of mm, just like my dice tray. This allows it to be placed on any table with the risk of scratching the surface (of the need to put something over the table first) but also provides a little bit of grip to stop it sliding around.

Green-stuff rollers were used to get the embossed effect on the wall and pillars, which in the end, worked quite well and was dead easy. In the end I went for brass etched plants, so had the fun of painting even leaf/fern and then positioning them. A lot more tedious than plastic aquarium stuff, but I think the effort is worth it, especially when it comes to small ferns growing out of brickwork etc.

Enjoy.

Just do it - you know it makes sense!

Just wait until you see the Silvermoon board (planning already started!)... :D
