I hope it's not real, but...

It looks to me like they are just going to have a weekend of playing old school games rather than games workshop updating and selling them, I'm at work so probably missed something though.

Why do you hope it's not true? Because they'll mess it up or because you'll be giving them your money and you hate them?

Because they'll mess them up - SG don't need power creep, "buy-to-win" units and all the other crap they put in 40K.

If they really do this (which I doubt), at least models might be available at less than the ridiculous eBay prices some of them go for these days. I have absolutely no faith in their ability to write rules though.

Mister glass-is-half-empty. The worst that happens is they update the rules badly, the community ignore them, and things stay as they are. The best is that they start producing more miniatures which can only be a good thing.

I suspect they're just after some easy re-print money rather than investing in making any big changes.

The worst that could happen is them updating the rules in a way that they seem fun at first but are more flawed than the old ones. This would split the community into groups and from then on when you meet someone new you will have no idea what version of the rules they are going to be playing.

This. We already see this in Blood Bowl with people who play the BB PC game and wonder why the rules are different if they play table top, and most of those rule changes are pretty minor (and least in older PC version). The Necromunda community has the same with the 3 rules sets doing the rounds (original [ORB], LRB [2nd editon] and CE [Community Edition]).

If (and I'm not convinced this will hapen yet) the posted thing happens, I expect for some of the games there will be a re-write, big or small*, and then what are already niche groups within a niche hobby will be further split.

* Blood Bowl would probably be in line for a large re-write, as most of the current rules weren't written by GW staff.

Multiple UK people are reporting their local GW manager are confirming this, so something is coming.
I'm still not convinced that i means (some of) the old SG games are going to be re-released, but given that they've recently renewed the LotR license (for 5 years I heard) and that the current CEO likes the one-off box strategy I think there is mileage in this somewhere down the line.

I expect they'll be some sort of official announcement in the next few days, especially if this Australian manager jumped on it a little to soon.
